Embroidered Crowns
Crowns have been embroidered for centuries. The crown traditionally represent power, legitimacy, victory, triumph, honor, and glory, as well as immortality, righteousness, and resurrection. I find endless inspiration in flea markets, books and online.
Above is a picture of a crown I am hand embroidering for a sample.
And below some pictures of heirloom linens with embroidered crowns.

THE BOOK OF FINE LINEN - LE LIVRE DU BLANC
Author: Francoise de Bonneville with a preface by Marc Porthault. Published in 1994, I first encountered this book in a small boutique in Saint Jean de Luz a few years ago. I was so impressed by its beauty and the richness of its text that I ended up buying it used on Amazon where It can be found from time to time.
Here is a link to Amazon page. The original version is in French and it was also edited in English.
It explains the tradition of the Trousseau and history of heirloom fabrics, the caretaker's art, the different natural fibers used over centuries as well as the traditional techniques...
Many of the sumptuous pictures come from the Porthault firm archives as well as museums and private collectors.
I highly recommend it for anybody interested in Antiques and Vintage Linens.
